Typically if you notice, there are some things that you would need in most of your recipes… Whether you’re cooking a vegetarian meal or meat, grilled fish, some essentials help you stir up a dish of your choice… but the magic ingredients we were referring to here also are a must-have because of the benefits they offer. Let’s go through some of these…

  • Virgin Olive Oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Garlic
  • Tomatoes
  • Basil

Here’s the detailed description about these ingredients.

  1. Virgin Olive Oil

If you are planning to stir fry some greens, sauté some veggies or make a salad dressing, olive oil is the basic thing you would need at first. Some of you would be using some other vegetable oils for cooking, but research proves that olive oil contains monounsaturated fatty acids and helps prevent many diseases. Regular consumption of virgin olive oil helps reduce chances of cancer and protects against many coronary diseases and health problems.

  1. Salt and Pepper

Salt and pepper are most commonly used in almost all cuisines and dishes. Recipes usually always require the usage of both, as salt and pepper help to enhance and add flavour. Salt also gives us the needed iodine in our body and pepper adds to the flavour and taste. Pepper is no doubt a very versatile seasoning that can be used in pasta, an Indian dish, a simple salad, or anything else you are trying from other international cuisines.

  1. Garlic

Can you think of many recipes that can be made without this wonder ingredient? Not only does it add a punch to a dish you are cooking, it is highly nutritious and has very few calories. This wonder herb is very high in Allicin (a sulfur compound) and high in many nutrients like Manganese, Vitamin B6 and C, Selenium, Calcium, Copper etc. It acts as a magical medicine in flu and common cold. Not only this, it helps improve Cholesterol levels and lowers risk of heart ailments.

  1. Tomatoes

Be it a gravy dish, a pizza, salads, pasta, or anything, tomatoes are a must-have. Did you know that this humble vegetable is an excellent source of vitamin C and K, vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene), biotin, dietary fiber, copper, potassium, manganese, vitamin B6, folate, niacin, vitamin E, phosphorus and much more? This storehouse of goodness is not only good for your skin but also prevents many types of cancer and is good for your heart and kidneys. Add a lot of raw tomatoes in your salads as eating them raw gives you the benefit of the antioxidants present in them.

  1. Basil

You would agree that sprinkling some herbs to your pasta, pizza, breads or oriental veggies adds that zingy flavour to your cooking? But if you have fresh Basil leaves in your kitchen, it’s a double whammy! These simple looking green leaves are actually an excellent source of vitamin K, manganese, copper, calcium, vitamin C, iron, omega-3 fatty acids and folate. Loaded with so many qualities, this herb has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and also helps your heart to stay healthy.
